US Postal Service says it’s moving overnight mail to secure secure facility

Shipping containers are being moved overnight from its secure facility in New Jersey to a facility at a military base in Arizona to secure shipments from the Postal Service for safe transportation to the Pentagon, the USPS said Tuesday.

“This is a critical step in our efforts to prevent an unanticipated and unexpected event from occurring,” USPS spokesman Tom Withers said in a statement.

“We are confident in our capabilities and our readiness to deliver to our customers in the event that this event were to occur.”

In addition, a new $2.5 million contract for an additional 30 containers was signed to support the Postal Inspection Service and the military, the Postal Services said in the statement.

Wither’s statement said the move is expected to take place over the next several days.
